Green is having a moment…

Posted on October 16, 2025September 11, 2025 by Julia

And long may it last!  I love green, and lucky me, it is a colour I can wear. For years, fashion know-it-alls said it was a colour to avoid; it made you look sallow.  Well, that was a load of untruth.

As I sit in Café Bureau having a latté, I see the wonderful serving counter, which is  a kind of aggregate collection of silver and green.  And I know it is special as one of the co-owners told me how it was poured in situ in one sweeping go. It is beautiful. And at my table, the chair is a soft green shade and the saucer too – a little darker in the same tone.  And then a happy moment as a young lady has just come in looking fab. A neat black top and a full mid-length skirt in green – perfect.

I admire many African clothes and fabrics that have browns and blacks and green and splashes of gold. Worn with great panache.

And have you seen the green cars – the new shinny ones?  Very lovely shades of green, some a soft mossy colour, others a soft khaki, many shades in subtle tones.  And just a little note, my new hiking shoes for the Camino are that green soft khaki colour.

And green is reassuring.  I mean there is the whole environmental messaging and now look at the emergency fire-exit signs.  They are no longer that bilious red but green with a green running figure on a flag-like background. Green to inspire confidence and action.

(Dear readers, I will be telling you all about my Camino in a future post)
