Where to start on this blog, which completely reflects my dilemma in my effort to find, decide and sort out a new car for me!
OK, I know how lucky I am to be able to have a new car dilemma. Yes, yes, I know. But I don’t think I am being that extravagant. My current car, which I bought new, is a 2003 Honda Civic, and it is a sweetie, bless its little tires! However, this new car will be my last car, and I would love to experience and enjoy a few bells and whistles before I am banned from being behind the wheel, and since 2003, I have been able to save up some $ for this new adventure.
Since my last car purchase, EVs and hybrids are available, and I want one! And that has been another whole layer of back and forth: Hybrid… let’s go full electric…well, let me have another look at those hybrids.
Last weekend, we were at the Motor Show here in Edmonton. And what fun that was. Chatting with all the company reps. They always ask what you are driving at the moment – I did get a bit of kudos with my: “2003 Honda Civic, 2 doors and Standard”. Oh, I guess the old lady knows how to drive.
We signed up for the test drive circuit set up in the parking lot. This was organized and run by an association promoting all things electric cars. They team us up with an expert to try out the many models. The young man looking after us was keen to have us drive quite a few, though we disappointed him when we said no to the electric Hummer. Gee, actually I should have given that a go!
Later in the week, we test drove a Tesla-Y. The self-drive feature was just fascinating and such fun to try out. I am at the research and education stage.
Well! My daughter, learning of my Telsa-flirt was HORRIFIED that I would consort with the Elon person. “Mum, the man’s a Nazi!” She even got my son to phone me, who kindly explained to me the Zeit-Geist of 2026. I just wanted to try it out for fun, give me a break, guys. I will not be buying a Tesla, pity really, but just too much political baggage.
Luckily, my little Honda is trundling along, as it might be a while yet before I take off with any new wheels!
