Be warned! When you set out on a pilgrimage, it will change your life henceforth. It could be my dear Camino de Santiago, or, to Rome, Lourdes or the Holy Land. When you have made these journeys, you will be a pilgrim now from the inside out. I suspect, if your journey involves walking or cycling or on a horse, well, you will be truly lost forever as a pilgrim.
Being a pilgrim infiltrates into so many ways of our being. Talking of my experience, many years ago, I got cancer and, through the illness and treatment I was on a pilgrimage. It sustained me and let me escape to those places, memories and sanctuaries. That is behind me now. Thank you, God.
And then I took on another pilgrimage without leaving home: I wrote a book. With Pardon my Camino, I went into a deep dive and situated my tale actually on the Camino de Santiago. Such a wonderful structure. I so enjoyed writing and reliving the Way, following again John Brierly’s guidebook, researching the history and inventing the story and adventure.
Then came the editing, looking for an editor, an agent, and a publisher and then deciding I was not going to wait around any longer, so self-publishing. Getting this whole process sorted was such a struggle, like a wet, cold day on the Camino when my muscles ached and I developed blisters on my sad feet.
And now I have jumped into another venture where I have to call up all my Camino resources. It is not a spiritual or physical struggle just organizing and ***** computer and software stuff!! Three computers are involved: a new fancy one for my wonderful reader, Camino companion and Stratford-trained actress Krysia. Her computer has a microphone and goes to the recording software- Squadcast. I have my older laptop – the one on which I wrote the novel, and we are both linked up with our tech person, executive producer and the person who actually knows what is going on – Sean, and he is in Regina, the next-door province.
The last week has been sturm and drang and stress and odd times of despair. I do hope now we are A-OK. I am crossing my fingers as we launch into real recording next week (check my fingers on my doodle picture of me in the pit of sort of despair)
With all this daily recording going on, I could be a bit negligent on new posts to be blogged. But dear readers, I have not dropped out. I will be back here.
