Once again, I see I have neglected the Covid diary. Well, no surprise seeing that Covid has become such a bore. This really is about the worst way of starting a blog post! Covid has become this spongy mess that just cycles around the world in different stages of death and hospitalization and infections and then hopeful reductions in numbers before it takes off again with a 4th or even a 5th wave. That is if we can find the divisions between the waves.
And now Variant has become a proper noun. And please qualify it with nasty, mean, sneaky. How dare it attack our little ones? Our precious little ones that have not been able to be vaccinated. It crept and crawled and mutated and found that whole new population for its wicked damaging ways. The Elementary school kids do the masks, the handwashing, stay in their cohorts but Variant just laughs at that and barges into their little bodies. Grade 2 at the school across the road is closed down for two weeks with four cases of Covid. And we wait and fret. The child-appropriate vaccine is promised to be OKed soon, hopefully before Christmas.
As a vaccinated person – even had my booster – life is opening up a bit – two movies, dinner out with friends. We are not allowed to have guests in our homes more than one other household but we can all be jolly together in a restaurant. With masks and QR code proof of vaccine of course.
As with the climate crisis, we are all, worldwide, suffering from Covid, but under different circumstances. If we live where we are lucky enough to have access to vaccines, we also have our national anti-vax teams. And as I have had my booster, therefore third shot, I feel for the nations without vaccine access or distribution systems. The Canadian government is acting, but are we doing enough for the countries of Africa and other nations?
And to grumble some more from my situation of privilege, I would like to go and see my brothers and their families in the UK. But 8 hours on a plane, the worry of a major outbreak and what if I get stuck far from home?
So I am hunkered down for the winter and back to knitting socks! And this morning winter caught up with us with a 20cm dump of snow. My Tai Chi was cancelled so I had time to do the great driveway and sidewalk snow shovelling, and it is rather heavy snow (excellent for snowmen.) And wonderfully, as I shovelled, 5 flocks of geese flew over, honking away and gliding through their V-shaped celestial dance to the south. Thank you geese for the wonderful sight and I am glad you can get away, though you did leave it to rather the last minute.
Thank you very much for sharing, I learned a lot from your article. Very cool. Thanks. nimabi
